Early on the morning of December 30, 2009 Dr. Sporn called Mommy concerned that he hadn't heard from the hospital and thought I was headed in. So he told me to hurry up, get to his office and that we may be having a baby TODAY! Mommy called Daddy and asked if he was ready to have a baby. The problem was Mommy was in Sarasota for a mediation, so things had to wait.
We got to the Doctor's office and was checked by Dr. Sporn. He told us to head immediately to St. Joseph's Women's Hospital and that he would let them know we were on our way and to get an operating room ready for the c-section. I am so thankful I got one last photo of our family as an us and a couple before our Peanut was officially here!
Mommy was prepped with IV fluids and a spinal block in the operating room (number 8 to be exact). Daddy was sent to another room to get ready with scrubs and the camera. He says the wait seemed like forever though he knows it was no more than 20 min.
Daddy came in to the operating room and Mommy and Peanut were ready to go. Mommy could feel the baby moving until the last of the anethesia began to work.
The surgery was over in minutes....and Daddy announced, ITS A BOY!! (There is a really cute story behind that, ask Mommy or Daddy to tell it to you...they love it)
John Donovan Thomas was welcomed in to the world on December 30, 2009 at 4:23 pm weighing in at 7 lbs and 8 ozs, 20 inches long and an APGAR score of 8-9. He was screaming as soon as he came out. Mommy immediately started to cry and Daddy was so excited he was in shock.
Shortly after that Donovan was put on Mommy's chest, but she could only hold him for a minute or 2 and we did get some sweet photos. There is already a list of those I wish I had again and those I would do over to take it all in some more.
Then Daddy took Donovan up to the nursery and Mommy's surgery was completed. Thank you to the wonderful nurses, the anethesia team who talked to Mommy to keep her calm and especially Dr. Sporn.
Mommy was wheeled to recovery to wait about an hour. Daddy got to tell the waiting Mullady's its a boy, and send a million text messages out about Donovan's arrival. Then he came back down stairs to wait with Mommy. Once we were in a room (411) we got to see our visitors, though they had already been to the nursery to see the baby. We all waited and waited. Donovan wasn't coming that night. He was "grunting" which means he had fluid in his chest. The pediatrician had to clear him to come upstairs. It took forever they only do rounds every 3 hours. Everyone was so sad we kept calling down to the nursery and begging for him to come up. Thank you to Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle William, Aunt Joy and "Aunt" Kristen for coming to visit. While we waited Mommy and Daddy opened some gifts, lots of goodies for Donovan including a special lion that says I love Daddy and a Giraffe that plays lullabyes.
Donovan was taken for a chest x-ray at 11 pm after the Dr did his rounds. Then they brought him up to see Mommy and Daddy for 30 minutes but the rest of visiting hours were already over. Mommy and Daddy were so sad when the nurse came to take him back. We were sure to snap a few photos when we were able to see him. Of course the time was way too short but we were grateful for any time we could get.
Mommy couldn't sleep and was up at 6:30 am when the pediatrician's begin rounds again to check on her sweet bundle. He was running late and hadn't been in yet. Finally at 8:30 the nurse said he was cleared and would be coming to the room soon. It was still nearly 10 am before we saw him. But he was perfect when he arrived and never left again. Plus he was able to get his circumcision while he was down in the nursery and was set to go. Mommy and Daddy are so proud they could talk for days about their sweet baby boy!
