We arrived on the Big Island of Hawaii at 2:30 island time which was 8:30pm at home EST. We deplaned with a flight of stairs directly on to the tarmac and 82 degree weather with a strong sun. Its gorgeous here. We are staying in Kona at Waikoala Beach. There is a fabulous Marriott here. The hotel is very contemporary and everything is open air. Their are tiny birds that ate right off the bar here. We stopped for lunch in the hotel lounge and Derek enjoyed a margarita (I think he forgets this is not a trip to Mexico). And we snacked on a giant pizza. Price tag $17 so that wasn't bad for sharing. I am so excited to discover all the hidden gems and taking tons of photos. In the mean time on our first day after over 13 hours of traveling we crashed for the night. But now we were up at 4 am island time and the plan is to make the long drive to the Hilo side of the island and likely check out the volcano. So for now ALOHA and Happy Birthday to me!
